Subject: CyberTax 2012-08: Volunteer Tax Alert and Quality Site Requirements – Attached required at sites
In this CyberTax:
- Volunteer Tax Alert (VTA) on IRA Deductions
- Quality Site Requirements Alert (QSRA) on Possible Tax Scams
VTA 2012-05 IRA Deduction
Volunteers should determine if a taxpayer’s contributions to an IRA are eligible for an IRA deduction. Only contributions to a traditional IRA are eligible for the IRA deduction.
Some taxpayers who may be potential victims of a possible tax scam may visit your VITA/TCE site. Be aware of some of the warning signs like preprinted tax returns not supported by valid W2s or 1099s and follow your site’s procedures for checking the taxpayer’s identity. Additional details in the attached.
